Islands In The Sun

~ Trinidad and Tobago

Often I hear the weather description  of other countries of the world,

As being either unbearably hot or freezing cold.

Thankfully we don't have that complaint in Trinidad and Tobago,

And please don't mistake this statement for self inflated ego.

We've been placed at the ideal latitude and longitude coordinates,

Which holds major responsibility for our warm and inviting climate.

The North East Trade Winds keep us cool and refreshed,

A sentiment to which locals and foreigners alike can attest.

Over the years we've stood on many storms and hurricanes' course,

But we've somehow escaped with little or no devastating loss.

Our feelings are never dampened by intervals of rain,

Because we know the sun will soon be out in its glory again.

It's almost always accompanied by the most spectacular rainbow painted across the sky,

Leaving you in awe of the beauty right before your eyes.

As often as an airplane comes to our airport,

Visitors come seeking some sunbathing sport.

When they make their departure from our twin island,

They do so proudly, with an exotic Caribbean tan.

So while we're thankful for the blessings of sweet T&T,

Let's pray for our neighbors to all weather their storm safely.

Return to my blog page

Today is the1st of September,

A day I will always remember.

Here I start a 90 days journey,

Of writing one poem daily.

Once before I was inspired by Jean Kay,

I tried, but I did not make it all the way.

Now I’m back with a 90 day goal,

With great excitement to see how it will unfold.

This here is not just my writing skill being put to the test,

But also a habit being developed by this quest.

This habit requires me to write consistently,

And I’m grateful for the onlooking eyes of accountability.

Often we set out to do what we say,

But then life challenges come along the way.

This is when we know we must push through,

As such action gives our word more value.

Being true to Your Own Unique Real Self is imperative,

As it will determine the composition of your narrative.

Mine is to use my talent to help as many as I can,

With God being in control of the entire plan.

This piece is the first of many to come,

And I hope you will be inspired to Get Stuff Done.
